Cultura: A Drink That Began at Home

This didn’t start as a product.

It started as a question.

As mothers, both Shweta and I found ourselves pausing before handing over a glass of anything fizzy to our daughters.

Not because they didn’t enjoy it. But because we knew too much.

Too much sugar. Artificial carbonation. Water we couldn’t fully trust. Ingredients we couldn’t pronounce. And yet… children love bubbles. So the question stayed with us:

Can something be fizzy, fun, and still feel right to give your child?

A kitchen, a farm, and a shared intention

Shweta, my dear friend, has been experimenting with fermentation for years.

Not casually—but with curiosity, patience, and a deep respect for traditional methods.

At the same time, I was growing food on the farm with a simple belief:

If it’s not good enough for my plate, it doesn’t belong anywhere else.

Somewhere between her kitchen experiments and the farm’s harvest, this drink began to take shape. Slowly. Naturally. Without a plan to sell it. Just a desire to make something better.

So what is Cultura?

Cultura is a naturally fermented ginger bug soda.

Which simply means:

  • The fizz is created naturally

  • The drink is alive with good bacteria that support your gut

  • It is made in small, mindful batches

At its core, it’s made from:

Ginger, water, natural fermentation, and time

No shortcuts. No artificial processes.

Why we chose this path

Most drinks today are designed for convenience.

Long shelf life. Standardised taste. Mass production.

But somewhere along the way, something important gets lost.

We didn’t want to create just another “alternative.”

We wanted to create something that felt:

  • Alive

  • Seasonal

  • Honest

Something that you could trust—not because of a label, but because you understand how it’s made.

The role of the farm

The ginger used in Cultura comes from Purna Farm. Without chemicals. In living soil.

This matters more than it seems. Because fermentation amplifies everything. If your ingredient is strong and clean, your final drink carries that integrity forward.

Why ginger?

Ginger has always been part of our kitchens—not as a trend, but as tradition.

We’ve used it for:

  • Digestion

  • Immunity

  • Reducing inflammation

  • Everyday home remedies

When you ferment ginger, it transforms.

It becomes:

  • Easier for the body to absorb

  • Rich in natural probiotics

  • Gentle yet effective

So what you’re drinking is not just refreshing—it’s supportive.

Understanding the “ginger bug”

Despite the name, it’s nothing strange.

A ginger bug is a natural starter culture.

Ginger, sugar, and water are left to ferment, allowing good bacteria to grow. Over time, it becomes alive—active, bubbly, and full of natural energy.

This is what gives Cultura its fizz.

Not machines. Not injected gas.

Just fermentation, the way it has always been done.

And yes, it passed the only test that mattered

Our daughters.

Because at the end of the day, that’s where this began.

Something they could enjoy. Something we didn’t have to second-guess. And something that didn’t feel like a compromise.

An evolving drink

Cultura is not fixed.

It changes with seasons, with ingredients, with experiments.

We continue to explore:

  • New flavours

  • Seasonal produce

  • Small variations in fermentation

Some batches are sharper. Some softer. Some more playful. And we’ve chosen not to control that completely. Because real food has personality.

If this resonates with you…

You might be someone who:

  • Thinks a little deeper about everyday choices

  • Wants simpler, more honest food

  • Believes that small changes matter

Cultura is just one such small change.
