Who Can Compost? (Hint: Probably You)
When we think of composting, we often picture farmers, gardeners, or people with big backyards and lots of land. But here’s a little secret…
If you cook, you can compost. Yes, even if you live in an apartment. Even if you don’t grow a single plant.
Composting isn’t about where you live. It’s about how you think about your waste.
Composting Is for Everyone
Whether you’re:
A city dweller with a tiny balcony
A busy parent trying to feed their family better
Someone working long hours but still cares about the planet
A student in a rented room
Or a retired couple with a small home garden

You can compost.
All you need is:
Your daily kitchen scraps
A little space (even a corner will do!)
The right composting method (drum, pit, vermicompost, etc.)
Why Compost If You Don’t Have a Garden?
And I get that. But composting isn’t just about feeding your plants
It’s about not feeding landfills. It’s about keeping our food waste out of plastic garbage bags, where it rots and emits methane.
Even if you don’t use the compost, you can:
Donate it to local gardens
Share it with neighbours who grow food
Enrich the soil in your community parks or pots
Or just feel good that you’re not adding to the waste problem
Start Small. Start Now.
Don’t overthink it. Start with a small container, learn the basics, and build your rhythm. The banana peel you threw today could have been tomorrow’s soil booster.
And if you're wondering how to start, stay tuned—every Friday, I share tips and bite-sized composting wisdom in my new series: #CompostCultureFridays on Instagram @purnafarm
Let’s compost like the planet depends on it—because it does.
